No matter where you are in your caregiving journey — starting to plan; taking care of a family member in your home, in a facility, or from a distance; or managing end-of-life caregiving responsibilities — having resources at your fingertips will make the process easier.

AARP developed this family caregiver guide with you, the caregiver, in mind and as a starting point to help you find the services and support you might need throughout your journey.

Caregiver Support

Nevada Lifespan Respite Care Coalition (775-401-4163)
Supports caregivers in the community and promotes awareness of and access to respite services, providing the caregiver with a temporary or periodic opportunity for a break from normal caregiving duties.

Nevada Care Connection
Helps older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, veterans and families access community services.

Nevada Caregivers Coalition
Provides caregivers with information, resources and support.

Finances

Provides nonprofit financial education and counseling to consumers struggling with debt, budgeting, housing and student loan concerns. Sessions are available in person in select locations, via phone or online.

Access Nevada (800-992-0900)
One-stop portal for residents to apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid assistance, receive online communications and find other account management tools.

Legal

Provides information and investigates allegations of abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.

Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada (702-386-1070)
Offers representation, counsel and advice, as well as community legal education, for Nevada residents who cannot afford legal services.

Nevada Disability Advocacy & Law Center

Any person may file an advance directive in an electronic registry securely maintained by the Secretary of State’s Office at no charge.

Nevada RSVP CARE Law (775-687-4680)
Provides pro bono and low-cost legal services to rural residents adults age 60 and older.

Southern Nevada Senior Law Program (702-229-6596)
Provides quality legal assistance and advocacy services for adults age 60 and older facing aging-related challenges.

Washoe Legal Services (775-329-2727)
Provides free and low-cost legal services in northern Nevada.

Health

Dementia Friendly Nevada (775-682-9444)
Helps people with dementia and their caregivers find support.

Livanta (877-588-1123)
Helps Medicare beneficiaries who are concerned about the care they have received or want to request a review (appeal) of discharge from a health care facility.

Nevada Medicare Assistance Program (800-307-4444)
Offers free Medicare counseling and assistance. Programs include the Nevada State Health Insurance Assistance Program, Nevada Senior Medicare Patrol and the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act.

Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (775-688-2001)
Comprehensive, community-based behavioral health system for adults. The only public psychiatric hospital serving Northern Nevada. Rural Clinic listing.

Helps consumers understand their rights and responsibilities; provides advocacy to consumers covered under group health plans, individual health policies, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, Nevada Workers’ Workers’ Compensation and Medicare or Medicaid. Helps uninsured Nevadans locate health care resources and enroll in health insurance marketplace plans.

Provides information and investigates allegations of abuse,

Provides affordable rental housing through several HUD-funded programs to assist low-income individuals, families, older adults and people with disabilities.

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP— Transportation Program (775-687-4680)
Volunteers provide escorted door- to-door transportation for frail, homebound and low-income residents age 60 and older, people with disabilities ages 18 to 59 and veterans unable to drive.

Regional Transportation Commission Access — Washoe County (775-348-0477)
Provides door-to-door, prescheduled transportation for people who meet the eligibility criteria of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada Paratransit (702-228-4800)
Clark County Reservation-based door-to-door service available to eligible residents operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Southern Nevada Transit Coalition — Silver Rider Transit
