Fraud, Finances, Elder Abuse on Deck in Statehouse

The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and AARP Alabama plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.

Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;  and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.

In 2022, AARP Alabama helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse. The law requires nursing homes and home health agencies to use the registry as part of their hiring processes.

        <div class="RichTextArticleBody-body"><p>The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.<br><br>Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;&nbsp; and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.<br><br>In 2022, <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse.         <div class="RichTextArticleBody-body"><p>The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.<br><br>Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;&nbsp; and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.<br><br>In 2022, <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse. The law requires nursing homes and home health agencies to use the registry as part of their hiring processes.<br><br>Find caregiver resources at aarp.org/caregiving.         <div class="RichTextArticleBody-body"><p>The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.<br><br>Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;&nbsp; and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.<br><br>In 2022, <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse.         <div class="RichTextArticleBody-body"><p>The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.<br><br>Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;&nbsp; and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.<br><br>In 2022, <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse.         <div class="RichTextArticleBody-body"><p>The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.<br><br>Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;&nbsp; and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.<br><br>In 2022, <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse.         <div class="RichTextArticleBody-body"><p>The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.<br><br>Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;&nbsp; and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.<br><br>In 2022, <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse. The law requires nursing homes and home health agencies to use the registry as part of their hiring processes.<br><br>Find caregiver resources at aarp.org/caregiving.         <div class="RichTextArticleBody-body"><p>The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.<br><br>Among the priority topics: fraud, which contributed to nearly 60,000 fraud and other complaints in Alabama in 2021; financial security; elder abuse; support for family caregivers;&nbsp; and expansion of high-speed internet in the state.<br><br>In 2022, <span class="Enhancement" ><span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://states.aarp.org/alabama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AARP Alabama</a></span></span> helped pass a law that creates a registry of people convicted of elder abuse.
