Faver-Dykes State Park is conveniently located on the outskirts of America’s oldest city in St. Augustine and close to the highway. As you travel down our main road, journey back in time and discover the Real Florida. Enjoy relaxing, picnicking or fishing under the towering longleaf pines in a sandhill ecosystem that once dominated the Florida landscape.Pellicer Creek is our southern border and accessible at our boat ramp for canoes, kayaks and small boats. It is a designated a State Canoe Trail and you can either head east to the Pellicer flats and Matanzas River or west to the fresh water beginnings. Pellicer Creek has an average depth of 2 – 6 feet. It is one of the most pristine estuarine tidal marshes on the east coast of Florida with abundant salt and fresh water fish, magnificent birding and wildlife viewing opportunities. We have canoe rentals available by the hour or day.Camp under the shady hardwood hammock where many generations of Floridians have lived, worked and played. We have 30 sites that will accommodate tents or RVs up to 35’. Pellicer Creek is a popular site for birding with more than one hundred bird species seen during spring and fall migrations. Songbirds, including the colorful wood warblers, along with eagles and falcons, return to nest at the park each year. Wading birds, such as egrets, wood storks, white ibis and herons, feed in the tidal marshes and creeks. This peaceful park is also home to deer, turkeys, hawks, bobcats and river otters.ExperiencesBicyclingBike areas are provided.Helmets are highly recommended for all cyclists and Florida law requires helmets for cyclists age 16 and under.BirdingBirding is a popular activity at Faver-Dykes State Park. Visitors enjoy birding on foot, walking the nature trails and by boat on the calm waters of Pellicer Creek. Boat RampA boat ramp is located in the park allowing small boats and canoes access to the Pellicer CreekBoatingNoted for its pristine condition, this tranquil park borders Pellicer Creek as it winds along Florida's east coast highways down to the Matanzas River. A boat ramp for small boats and canoes is available at the park.Campfire CirclesJoin our camping community around the fire circle.CampingThe park has 30 campsites located in a shady hardwood hammock with natural vegetation buffers located between most of the sites. Each campsite has water, electricity, an inground fire circle with a grill and a picnic table. Hot showers and restrooms with ADA accessible amenities are available. A dump station is located at the campground. Well-behaved pets are allowed in the campground.Consumption of alcohol beverages throughout the park is prohibited, except for campers, who may consume alcoholic beverages within their campsites only.Maximum RV length = Our campsites accommodate a variety of RV lengths from 25 to 35 feet. The creek and tributaries offer a beautiful place to observe the varied bird and marine life of the area. Canoes are available for rent by advanced reservation.FishingPellicer Creek borders the southern boundary of the park and is popular for fishing. Both saltwater and freshwater species can be caught in Pellicer Creek. Red drum, black drum, sheepshead, spotted seatrout, common snook can all be caught from the park's fishing dock. Freshwater species such as large mouth bass and bream can be caught closer to the creek headwaters. Size and bag limits are strictly enforced. All of the current regulations are available at the park.All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season.  A fishing license may be required.  More information is available at the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.Hiking Nature TrailThe park has four nature trails. The Picnic Area Nature Trail is accessible from the picnic area and is dominated by Longleaf Pines and Turkey Oak trees.  It is a leisurely half mile trail with views of the creek and salt marsh.  The Campground Nature Trail is accessible by site #15 in the campground.  It is a shady half mile trail that winds through the hammock with a view of Pellicer Creek at the halfway point.  The Pine Loop Trail is a triangle trail that connects to the longer Hiram Faver Trail.  It has beautiful views of Longleaf Pines, Saw Palmettos, native shiny blueberries, and many grasses/wildflowers.  Regular prescribed burns are conducted in this area to maintain the natural plant community.  The Hiram Faver Trail is a 2.6 miles trail that is mostly shaded with benches and ending at an overlook of the Pellicer Flats.  Several miles of park boundary roads and back woods roads are also available for hiking. Please make prior arrangements with park staff to hike these backwoods areas.PicnickingFaver-Dykes State Park provides picnic facilities located along beautiful Pellicer Creek. There are two covered pavilions with other tables and grills located throughout the picnic area. The picnic area's close proximity to the creek affords a short walk to the park's fishing dock. The picnic area is located under a canopy of large old growth long leaf pine trees, which create a soft ground cover of pine needles. One of the pavilions is available on a reservation basis by calling the park at (904) 794-0997. Restroom facilities and a children's play area are also available in the picnic area.
