We are firmly committed to preserving and enhancing this Railway, so that future generations may continue to enjoy it. We are a community based organization. We have several unique and interesting pieces of Railroad equipment on display, and we own approx. 7 miles of the former Southern Railway's "M" line, currently being upgraded for scenic rail tours. We welcome you to come out and visit us, bring your friends and family, and take a scenic Railroad motorcar ride in the country! Here are a few notable facts about our railroad During his lifetime, President Franklin D. Roosevelt made more than 50 trips over our railroad while traveling between Washington, D.C. and Warm Springs, Georgia. On April 13, 1945, President F.D.R.'s funeral train traveled this railroad en route to Washington, D.C. and to Hyde Park, New York. The 101st Airborne company E "Band of Brothers" traveled over this railroad from Atlanta to complete their parachute training at Fort Benning, Georgia. We have 3 steam locomotives, 2 are currently on display... A. Engine #119, built for the Houston and Texas Central Railroad in April of 1892. (When he left Georgia, Doc Holliday arrived in Dallas, Tx. aboard the Houston and Texas Central. Doc Holliday was born in Griffin, Georgia.) This is the large black locomotive. B. Engine #13, Pullman Company Atlanta shop switch engine, built in 1909. This is the smaller green locomotive. C. Engine #1, Operated by Louisiana Cypress lumber company, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, built in 1921. This engine ran on the "floating railroad" in the cypress swamps. This locomotive is currently undergoing extensive renovation, and is not able to be seen. This locomotive is owned by Mr. Warren Frye. Our railroad goes through the site of Camp Stephens, which was the largest Confederate training camp in Georgia. We hope to have the line open to this location within the next couple of years. We plan to construct a passenger stop soon near Spalding county's beautiful "Dundee Lake Park" site, which borders our rail line, on the Southeast side of the lake. With the planned scenic walking trails around the lake, we all agree that this type of project would be a benefit to the Park, the Railroad, as well as the public! Our location in the northeast part of Spalding county is very scenic, and well preserved. We have a large field at our 3030 Teamon Rd. headquarters where you may park, and there is plenty of open space. We are open to entertain ideas of different types of activities at our location, please ask a volunteer if you are interested. Our portion of the Rail line is about 7 miles long, starts at the famous Towaliga river trestle, and proceeds south into Experiment. We are in the process of restoring much the railroad at this time. For all legal purposes, this Railroad line has never been "abandoned". We own the rails and all Railroad "Right of way" property, at varying lengths, with deed as recorded. We would like to extend our appreciation to the Spalding county Parks and Recreation department director Louis Greene, the parks and recreation board, as well as the County Commissioners and County Manager William Wilson, for their hard work in obtaining Dundee Lake, so that we may all continue to enjoy it in the future, as well as their guidance and assistance towards our efforts in preserving and enhancing this scenic, historic Railroad.
